GUILLERMO DEL TORO LOVES F#$KING FILM!!!: GREAT INTERVIEW AND OTHER STUFF
Several years ago I had the pleasure of making a complete ass of myself in front Academy Award nominee Guillermo Del Toro at the SXSW film conference. For some odd reason I felt the reason to ask him where I could find a copy of his early film, "Cronos", the spanish horror film that launched his career. His answer? "Block-fucking-buster man!" Well duh. I'm guessing the excitement from listening to this brilliant writer/director discuss how much he "loves fucking film", made me lose all sense and ask such a ridiculous question. I went to a panel with Del Toro and Robert Rodruguez where basically they got up on the stage and nerded out about their favorite films, and at that point in time the big arguement between shooting film or digital. If you ever get the chance to go hear Del Toro speak, don't miss it, he is one of the most passionate speakers on horror films and just film in general. At this point in time he is in line to direct the prequel to the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit. Only problem is, from what I understand the JRR Tolkein estate has filed some kind of lawsuit that prevent the making of the film. Always has to be some lawyer to come in and fuck everything up. Hopefully that will be resolved. I found this great interview with Del Toro here at EMPIRE. He discusses the Hobbit, as well as the HP Lovecrafts At the Mountains of Madness. Check that and here is an episode of Charlie Rose with Guillermo Del Toro and Alfanso Cuaron....great interviews....
